"Yes, son?" I responded, expecting a question about Cherry Fun Dips, science-fiction, or melting snow. Instead, I got this piercing inquiry.
"Mom, why did God make our eyes so that we could only see each other? I mean, really. If I were God, I would have made our eyes so that we could also see ourselves. That would be awesome. We wouldn't even need any mirrors...ever!"
"Well," I wanted to see where this train of thought was headed. "Why do you think God made our eyes to only look at each other?"
"Well, I guess if we really look at each other, then we have to take care of each other. If we only look at ourselves, then we might forget to love the ones around us. Maybe we don't have those kind of eyes because we are selfish enough already."
Well said. I love that boy.
Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.
